Otto Leege Path Dune Bridge

Hike over the Juist dunes and admire nature. A unique experience.

The entrance to the Otto Leege Trail is formed by a wooden staircase on Flugplatzstraße, on the steps of which the five Juist elements are posted: Sand, Water, Salt, Air and Light. The stairs lead up to a viewing platform, from which a good 100-metre-long wooden plank path built on stilts leads over the dunes. This path was specially built so that it does not interfere with the natural environment below and can be dismantled without leaving any residue if necessary.

At the very beginning of the path, you will find a relief carved into the floor of the viewing platform, which shows the importance of the Wadden Sea for bird migration.

The flight paths of the individual bird species are marked on a stylised map with metal rivets. Along the way, there are information boards explaining the different bird species and the unique biodiversity of the island. There are also seven different wooden reliefs along the boardwalk that describe the changes on the island over the centuries since 1650. The boardwalk ends barrier-free, so that wheelchair users can also reach the beginning of the trail from this side.
